Tax Manager
Summary of Responsibilities
Performs a wide variety of diversified, complex, tax services and supervises other tax department personnel. Among other accountabilities, supervised by and reports to the Tax Department Manager.
Primary Functions
- Review or prepare income, fiduciary, estate, gift and exempt tax returns.
- Monitor adherence to the Firm's tax policies, procedures and standards.
- Serve as a resource and mentor for staff tax accountants and senior tax accountants.
- Perform complex tax planning and research; render conclusions according to Firm policy.
- Assist accounting and auditing staff members in client meetings, reviewing tax accruals, and drafting footnotes to financial statements.
- Analyze IRS notices and draft responses, or review such work, according to Firm policy.
- Represent clients before the IRS.
- Delegate work to staff tax accountants and senior tax accountants; supervise their work.
- Participate in tax department administrative matters as directed.
- Assist in developing and marketing additional profitable tax services.
- Facilitate the timely and efficient flow of tax work.
- Serve as the engagement manager for selected individuals and business tax clients, including billing and fee matters.
- Contribute to the Firm's client service standards by producing quality work with attentive service, meeting Firm standards for turnaround time.
- Further develop industry or tax specialization expertise.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with all Firm personnel.
- Demonstrate initiative, creativity, imagination, and time management and organization skills.
- Assist with internal training programs.
- Coordinate and monitor personal development plans for tax staff.
Other Functions
- Assist with recruiting, developing, mentoring, and retaining tax department personnel.
- Develop good working relationships with client personnel to solidify trust and confidence in the Firm and its services.
- Participate in community organizations and activities, serving as an officer or sitting on a committee. Cultivate referral sources and centers of influence. Perform marketing and business development assignments according to individual Professional Development Plan.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or other related program. Advanced degree (generally master's in taxation or law) or enrollment in an advanced degree or certification program.
- 5-8 years of CPA firm experience in income tax services.
- Proficiency in use of computers and tax software programs.
- CPA certification.
